At The Haven we understand how hard it is for whanau to leave their babies for the first time. We have created a safe and loving space where our youngest tamariki feel secure, nurtured, and encouraged to explore.
We focus on each child's individual needs and work alongside parents to match their babies home routines to help them settle into their new home away from home.
Our experienced Kaiako create a calm, happy environment that fosters early communication, motor skills, and sensory exploration through play.
We are inspired by Pikler Philosophy, nurturing respectful relationships built on trust and love. Our gentle caregiving provides opportunities for children to learn through responsive and unhurried one to one interactions, and rich language exchanges with their Primary Caregiver. We provide time and space for uninterrupted play and freedom of movement, as we trust our children to reach each precious milestone by themselves, with their kaiako close by for encouragement and praise.
We strive to support our babies in having the best start to life! Through strong relationships with whanau, secure attachments with kaiako, a deep sense of belonging, building confidence in their communication skills and physical development, we believe our tamariki are off to a great start!
We do a minimum of 2-3 weeks transition visits to ensure our babies become familiar with their Primary Caregiver and new environment before starting.
We do a minimum of 3 days per week, this ensures that your baby feels a sense of belonging, forms strong relationships, and settles into the rituals and routines of daily life at The Haven.
We provide a nutritious and healthy morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, meeting the age and stage of your baby.
Yes please, we do not provide nappies as we find every parent has a brand they know and trust to keep their baby comfortable.
Absolutely, we can store breastmilk in our fridge or freezer and warm it up to the correct temperature by placing the bag or bottle of milk into a bowl of boiled water.
Yes, you can bring in a tin of formula and a bottle to leave here so there is one less thing to remember in the morning. Bottles are washed and sterilised daily.
We have two sleep rooms, with 5 cots in each room. We aim to do what you do at home, so if your baby is used to being rocked, patted or self-settling, we will aim to do the same.
We recommend bringing 3 changes of clothes per day, as our babies love to be outdoors and engage in sensory experiences throughout the day. The older infants are also learning to feed themselves, and this can sometimes get messy!
Please also bring in whatever your baby needs for sleep time, a sleep sack, snuggly, or dummy; whatever helps them get to sleep at home.
Each baby has their own Infant Journal. These journals are filled in daily by our kaiako, and lets parents know all bottle times and amounts, all nappy changes, sleep times, and what they have eaten during the day.
We have 4 full time Kaiako, 2 qualified and 2 unqualified, all with current first aid certificates.
Our Kaiako use WhatsApp to send messages and photos to parents, we also do a Daily Diary post on Storypark to show parents what their children have been engaged in each day. Parents can also call us at any time and get put through to the Pipi Ruma to talk to their baby’s primary caregiver.
